As we enter 2010, the South African Association for Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST) would like to extend an invitation to food scientists and technologists from throughout the world to join us at the 15th World Congress of Food Science and Technology that will be held from 22nd - 26th August 2010 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre under the auspices of the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST). We ask all members of the global food science and technology community to diarise these dates and make every effort to join us in Cape Town - one of the world's most sought after meeting and tourist destinations. The International Convention Centre, in the heart of the city and close to such world famous tourist attractions as Table Mountain and the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, is one of the finest and best equipped conference centres in the world and was the recent venue for the 2010 FIFA World Cup draw.

We will have a comprehensive and high quality scientific programme with numerous world class speakers, among them:

• Professor Sir David King, former Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK government.
• Dr Werner Bauer, Chief Technology Officer and Head of Innovation, Technology and Research & Development for Nestlé.
• Professor Gebisa Ejeta, winner of the 2009 World Food Prize

The run-up to the Congress has now moved into top gear! The call for abstracts of papers and posters has been on the website since July 2009 and we appeal to would-be presenters from both academic and commercial fields to submit their abstracts as soon as possible and no later than the deadline of January 31st 2010. The Second Announcement and Registration Form is now also on the website. This includes full details and costs for the Congress. Deadline for early-bird registration at reduced rates is May 31st 2010.
